Amália / Emily (she/her) is a queer interdisciplinary multi-media artist based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Working within a decolonial framework, her practice explores the relationships we have with the land and the natural world. Often using found objects and natural materials, she listens to what the land has to say and responds through story. With a strong use of colour and the tactile, her work has been called neo-folk.

Trained as an artist, certified as a nature and forest therapy guide, and working as an expressive arts therapist, Emily's art practice lives not only in the gallery space but also through community engagement in the form of arts programming, education, and therapy. Fundamentally, her practice is about our own ecology, rooted in the belief that our relationship with the land reflects our relationship with ourselves and each other.

Amália/Emily - “I am grateful to be able to live and work in Tkaronto. I  recognize this land to be the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat. I acknowledge that Tkaronto is covered by Treaty 13 and that while I am on this land I must know and live the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreements to honour all beings that live in this land.
